Always on the go
Time is floating. It seems we are almost half way through 2019. KCC has been participating in a number of events this year, already. It's time for a short update.

Just before KCC closed its gates for the christmas holidays kids and parents were invited to attend the awards ceremony and end year celebration. We looked back at an extraordinary year.In March we had celebrated the tenth anniversary of Kgomotso Children Centre, in June we had an amazing Youth Day celebration and in September friends from Germany came over to join us at the first spring camp since 2014. What a year!
This year we eventually had a summer camp which we last had one in 2014. These 6 days at Jabulani Camp Site brought a lot of joy to all kids and staff who took part in it.It was the best thing of the year. We played games, had team buidling activities and competitions. We ate together and on our last night we had a braai. We very much enjoyed swimming and playing in the pool - first thing to do in the morning and last thing to do at night. We went for a hike around the grounds of the camp site with our host Raymond.
June 16 saw KCC hold it’s annual fun walk and youth day celebration. A long and powerful walk and numerous emotional performances highlighted the day. People had come to gather at the soccer ground for another year to celebrate youth day in Block NN of Soshanguve. In the morning KCC’s Kids had started their long walk through Block NN to collected others and invited them to take part in this special event. This year they had changed their route and extended the walk.
It was the first career expo at KCC. Students from grade 9 to grade 12 had been invited to inform themselves about the different ways they can go in high school and after matric. "We had a great and successful event. The attendance by the children was great.", said pastor Dlepuma, a KCC board member and one of the speakers of the day.
This freedom day KCC kids were invited to take part at a sports day at Block GG in Soshanguve. They mixed with kids from another centre to enjoy the games they played together.
About 80 kids from age 11 to 18 had made their way from KCC to the playing ground. There they met with peers from another youth centre called Jehovah Jaira. The kids from both organizations were mixed in different groups and teams. They competed in different sports such as stick fighting, Dibeke, netball, skipping rope, tennis and soccer. It was a fun day for all boys and girls.
After Botshilu Private Hospital of Soshanguve had been providing Kgomotso Children Centre with a first aid kit last December they came back in March to train staff in first aid and health issues. The health care training offered by Botshilu Private Hospital took the whole day. The nurse who had made her way to KCC took her time to train staff in first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. All questions were answered and staff ended the day being sure that they now know how to do CPR not only on adults but also on children and infants.
The stage was set for an unforgettable day: On the 10th of March 500 kids, parents, staff, sponsors and friends came to celebrate ten years of Kgomotso Children Centre - and Kgomotso's birthday. The road was blocked. Two huge tents were stretched across the street in front of the children's centre. Chairs and tables were set for the day. A big banner hang at the wall. KCC was ready to mark its anniversary. So, when the music started children and staff danced their way up the street. Lined up in two rows they made their way to the stage.
Soon, on March 10 we are celebrating our 10 year anniversary. All donors, sponsors and friends of Kgomotso Children Centre are invited to take part in this very special event.
At the end of the school holidays KCC re-opened its gate. Just before kids and staff returned the workers had finished the new pavement with the help of some senior youth of KCC.
