Early december, KCC staff took part in a summer camp in Centurion. The camp had been organised by Hope for Life to bring together people from different organisations in order to teach and discuss about leadership.
KGS, namely Kgomotso Girls of Success, held the second workshop last Saturday, September 19, and it was a big success. 69 teenage girls from KCC and other youth centres attended and learned a lot.The theme of this workshop was "Be you in all you do". Lesego Gololo, a professional speaker, had been speaking at the event which afterwards led into a discussion about the meaning of the word unique.
Another new project at KCC. Kgomotso Girls of Success started last month aiming at empowering teenage girls in Soshanguve. At workshops that will take place regularly, girls will discuss issues they come up with.Kgomotso Senauwa, programme manager of KCC, says that when she grew up she was exposed to many things lacking guidance or protection: "So, I decided to do something to make sure I prevent such from happening to other children. This girl's initiative is my way of educating these girls to take care of themselves and believe in themselves."
This year Mandela Day was a great succesa at KCC. National Treasury, the Department of Public Works, Ouma Tema's Plus Fab, Tshwane North College, Bible Society and individual supporters came to offer their help. National treasury came and took 85 excited kids to the Pretoria Zoo for the day. Moreover, they gave away 100 Mandela day t-shirts, brought benches, plastic cups and plates. They ordered a jungle gym for the children. We are still waiting for it to be installed.

Together with Plus Fab company we will spend the Saturday painting, paving, and buidling the fence. We will start at around 10h00.

The last weekend in April was dominated by soccer matches for boys and girls of KCC. While the young enjoyed their time at a tournament in Pretoria the older ones went to play at their home ground. The girls' soccer team had its first ever friendly match. They played against girls even older than them but did a good job. It was tough and they lost in the end but enjoyed it nonetheless.
In late April staff of KCC started the sewing project. They learn different techniques of sewing which they will teach to kids in a second phase of the project to empower girls and boys of KCC.Three times a week five staff members are being instructed by Mama Rose, a lady skilled very well in sewing and other creative textile techniques. They already presented their first results after one week of training. Staff are enjoying the course a lot and are eager to get better and better every day.
Late in March boys and girls from KCC met with other adolescents of Soshanguve to talk about drug abuse, prevention, and health in a two day workshop. Moreover, they were invited to a soccer tournament.Hoildays at KCC are not only about relaxing and playing games but also about learning something important for life. Adolescent boys and girls participated in a two day workshop organized by SLDAC. SLDAC is short for Soshanguve Local Drug Action Committee. In the workshop they learned about different types of substance abuse, causes for substance abuse and methods of prevention.
For the third consecutive year KCC had been hosting the beauty pageant. It was topped of with the award giving ceremony for kids and staff who had achieved great things at KCC the previous year. The beauty pageant is one of the big events taking place at KCC anually. So, the three weeks of school holidays had been dominated by children and youth practicing for the day of beauty.
