Kgomotso Children Centre
In August 2014 KCC welcomed a group of local bikers’ club, ABSA bank’s staff members, and Bontle-Bame, an assisting NGO, in a celebration and a stand against women and child abuse.
The women’s day event was filled with fun, laughter, dancing and inspiring speeches from leaders of the groups that were in attendance. It started with the host of the event and the founder of Bantle-Bame, Ms Kea Modise Moloto, welcoming and introducing the Batsumi Mc Bikers’ Club, a group of bikers, and the girls of hope, a group of girls from KCC that she is giving workshops. She also asked for any male who might be interested in working with the boys of KCC through activities that aim to build the boys’ self esteem. Kea also called those who were present to help KCC to purchase the stand that is next to KCC. The space KCC is using now is very small and limited to few programmes.
Other speakers were Bianca Filmalter, the chairperson of KCC. She called everyone to support the work of KCC. “Just like women of 1956 marched with babies on their backs, I am calling everyone here to take KCC and carry it on your backs, and continue to think about the wonderful work it is doing in the community.” said Bianca. Members of ABSA bank brought some gifts of toys, books, and lunch boxes for the children, but they said they also wanted to see what needs the centre has, so that they can bring their support.
Kgomotso Senauwa, the manager of KCC, also spoke and said: “In the beginning of 2007, when I was doing my grade 11, I had a dream to build a big community centre, but I was not sure how I was going to do that. But people came and supported me and helped me to start the centre. I am very happy of the work that KCC is doing in the community, even though I see that there is still a lot of work to be done in terms of supporting our children.”
The children from KCC performed three beautiful dances. People were amazed by how these children dance so beautifully. By the end of the event the bikers had announced that they would be giving one of KCC's children a bursary to go and study in an art school when she completes her matric. Thank you to everyone who came to the event and contributed in making a difference in the lives of KCC's children.
