In February, we launched the exchange programme successfully. We hosted seven children and three caregivers from Don Bosco Club in Cologne, Germany. Next year a group of children and their caregivers from KCC will go on a trip to visit our friends in Germany.
On our website we already told you about the first time we met each other. We got to know each other well and children eventually built strong bonds. Our German guestsstayed for two weeks. Some places that were visited are Tswaing Crater, Apartheid Museum, Cradle of Humankind, Constitution Hill, Pilanesberg Game Reserve, Freedom Park, Voortrekker Monument, Soweto and Hector Peterson Museum and Menlyn Shopping Centre. We had a good time together in evenings at KCC. We played, cooked, walked and even hosted a very big carnival in Soshanguve. About 400 community members attended the carnival. It was a very emotional and difficult time when they had to separate. They were all crying. The challenge we had and did not know how to solve was the sunburn. It was very hot and their skin became red despite lotions for the sun they had.
Two months later, on 20 April 2013, we had a parent meeting. This was our first official meeting with parents. Many parents came. We introduced the centre to them and we discussed more about how to run this centre as staff and parents. We spent a long time discussing about the trip to Germany. 15 children and four caregivers will go to Germany next year in June. Each one of these people must raise R 7,000 for air ticket. The parent meeting went well and parents showed their support to the centre.
