KCC journeys with SLDAC

Late in March boys and girls from KCC met with other adolescents of Soshanguve to talk about drug abuse, prevention, and health in a two day workshop. Moreover, they were invited to a soccer tournament.Hoildays at KCC are not only about relaxing and playing games but also about learning something important for life. Adolescent boys and girls participated in a two day workshop organized by SLDAC. SLDAC is short for Soshanguve Local Drug Action Committee. In the workshop they learned about different types of substance abuse, causes for substance abuse and methods of prevention. On the second day participants talked and learned about ways of healthy living focusing on good nutrition and excersising to keep the body in shape.

The week after the workshop, boys and girls were invited to play in a soccer tournament. After the two day workshop it was a great chance to meet again in a nice atmosphere. The teams were mixed with people from different centres. Boys played in one group and girls in another one. Girls of KCC eventually came in first place with their team. So it was not always an enjoyable sunny day but successful, as well.

SLDAC has been journeying with KCC since the beginning of this year. Kgomotso Nyalungo, programme manager of KCC, is a member of the committee which is made up of nine leaders from different places and centres. The organization consists of businesses and NGOs which want to defeat drug abuse in the Soshanguve area. It is sponsored by the Gauteng provincial department of social development. The committee meets once a month and organizes workshops and events to fight substance abuse and help affected and infected victims.
