Dream, learn and improve

While kids are enjoying their time being back at the centre for a new school year, staff had the opportunity to be part of a first aid training by the Department of Social Development.

After school holidays KCC opened again for a new school year on January 12. Old children and youth were back again and new kids could register for the centre. Some things had improved, the new wall is almost done and staff and children enjoyed painting the wall. Other staff were taking part at the first of three workshops on first aid that is organized by the Department of Social Development. The other two workshops will take place in February.

At the centre there were still some signs of construction visible - and some children did not hesitate long but build their own small jungle gym out of the poles that the workers had left. Kgomotso, programme manager of KCC, said: "First I wanted to stop them because they might get hurt. But then I thought those kids have brains to help themselves." So, while they are still dreaming about having a real jungle gym they make the best of what they have.

Kgomotso Mphela is one of the 2021 winners of the Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans. She was honoured in the category "rural development projects" together with 9 other fellow South Africans.

KCC opens new branch

On Youth Day 2021 Kgomotso Children Centre opened a new branch in Winterveld. Almost 10 years after moving from the original place under a tree in Winterveld to establish the youth centre at Block NN in Soshanguve KCC is happy to be back in Winterveld, again.

Happy to be back

After another closure due to the lockdown situation KCC has finally opened again in February. While some activities are still restricted due to level 3 lockdown everyone at KCC was eager to start again with their work.

Looking back at 2020

Looking back at 2020, a year that has been very difficult to all of us, we want to thank those who supported us throughtout the year. After we had started with the We Can't Eat Air Campaign in April more organisations and people approached KCC to offer their help.

All are fed!

On the third day of the "We Can't Eat Air - Campaign" the remaining families received their long-awaited food parcels. The first phase of the campaign has now come to an end. We thank everyone who helped to make it a great success.

Day 2 of We Can't Eat Air Campaign

The second day in a row KCC staff and supporters went out to reach more families in the community providing them with food parcels. Families were crying because they had not had food for days, only surviving with drinking water.

Staying strong!

We take actions while government is still making plans. Due to lockdown Kgomotso Children Centre had to close its doors - but it didn’t close its eyes. We started the „We Can’t Eat Air - Campaign“ to hand out food parcels to 65 families of KCC kids who are in a desperate situation.
