March 2013

sports centre

Sports play an important role in the lives of boys and girls. Soccer is one of the sports that are most popular at the centre. In 2014, the boys of KCC founded their own soccer team. They are now eager to find other teams to play friendly matches.

educational centre

When it comes to education we likely talk about to most important programme run at KCC. KCC is proud that most of the children and adolescents have access to schools within their area. However, schools in South African townships are not as good as one might hope for. Poor supply of equipment at the schools, classes consisting of up to 60 students, and teachers lacking a proper education themselves make it difficult to teach and learn.

international exchange programme

At KCC we have an exchange programme with the German Don Bosco Club in Cologne. It was established in 2012. It started to function on 1 February 2013. On this day, 1 February 2013, a total number of ten Germans arrived here in South Africa at OR Tambo airport and visited KCC for two weeks. We had a lot of fun playing together and parting was such sweet sorrow.

arts & culture

Arts and Culture can be considered the heart of KCC. It was through dancing and drama that Kgomotso started to gather kids around her in 2008. Still, dancing is very popular among the boys and girls and their performances are part of every celebration taking place at the KCC. The dance group is regularly invited to perform on different occasions in Soshanguve, Pretoria or other towns in the Gauteng province. In 2011, they even performed for HRH The Duchess of Cornwall during her visit to South Africa.

providing food

"I haven't eaten anything, today." It is these words one can hear when children come to KCC after school.

KCC works hard to fight child hunger by providing them with a meal that will sustain them through the night. During the week, children get served a meal after school. Even on Saturdays and Sundays they get served a lunch. Sometimes, children come in the mornings to ask for bread to take to school. If possible KCC staff provide them with some bread so they do not have to study with an empty stomach.

Welcome to Kgomotso Children Centre...

...your home of comfort since 2007!

For more than 10 years Kgomotso Children Centre has been a home to hundreds of boys and girls in Soshanguve and Winterveld. In both townships children suffer from poverty, neglect and abuse, some are orphans. KCC provides these children with their basic needs, offers a wide variety of programmes, and gives them an opportunity to learn, play and laugh in an environment of safety.
