Kgomotso, director of KCC, visits Germany

In August 2017 Kgomotso Nyalungo, director of KCC, spent three weeks in Germany. She had been invited to come by members of the German support organization.

"Firstly, when I received the invitation to visit Germany it was a shock for me.", Kgomotso said. After her arrival at Frankfurt airport Kgomotso went to a welcoming ceremony in Niedernhausen, the hometown of the support organization in Germany. She was welcomed by the mayor and many supporters. In the days that followed she visited many places. She went to a kindergarden, a school, churches, Frankfurt university, and different youth organizations. "It is all so different to what we have in South Africa." she stated.

Kgomotso met with people from the German support organization Tshwane Township Kids. During her stay she took part in fundraisng events and presented the work of KCC on different occasions in and around Frankfurt and Cologne. New members for the support organization could be recruited and funds were raised that will help KCC to improve its structure. "I learned how our German sponsors raise funds to support KCC and it changed a lot in how I look at it." she explained.

From Frankfurt Kgomotso travelled to Cologne where she met the staff and youth of the youth centre Don Bosco Club. Nine of them had been visiting KCC in 2013. She got an insight in how the organization is running its programs and took part in the summer feast.

Through her stay Kgomotso helped to raise awareness of the situation in South Africa and Soshanguve in particular. She spoke about the importance of the work they do at KCC everyday. Moreover, she came back to KCC with many new ideas of how to improve the children centre in Soshanguve. "Germany is a beautiful country and the people are amazing.", Kgomotso concluded after her trip. "We are fortunate to be a part of these amazing people all thanks to Marc Lorenz and Stella Kümmerle [founders of Tshwane Township Kids] who started the work in Germany. We are really thankful and hope our own country will support us, too."
